Welfare changes announced in the Budget focus on supporting those most in need, while creating economic growth and jobs so people don’t need to live their lives on welfare.

Labor left a welfare system that was unsustainable, particularly when the population is ageing.

This Budget takes the decisions needed now to tackle Labor’s debt and deficit disaster. If Australia doesn’t take the hard decisions now, harder and more expensive decisions will be needed down the track.

HISTORIC TRADE DEAL WITH JAPAN TO DRIVE GROWTH

Today Australia signed a historic Economic Partnership Agreement (JAEPA) with Japan, our second-biggest trading partner with two-way trade worth over $70 billion.

Minister for Trade and Investment Andrew Robb said the agreement will leverage Australia’s strengths to drive economic growth and job creation.

More than 97 per cent of Australia’s exports to Japan will receive preferential access or enter duty-free when the Agreement is fully implemented.
